RADIANT AND BEAUTIFUL, FOCAL KANTA NO.2
Focal took the opportunity at one of the most popular shows on the international circuit, Rocky Mountain Audio Fest, to launch their latest loudspeaker, the Kanta No.2 this weekend.
StereoNET's roving reporter, Scott Rifkin was on hand in Denver, Colorado for the official press launch and first real-world glimpse.
The new 3-way bass reflex floor-standing speaker is equipped with a new generation IAL tweeter featuring a Beryllium inverted dome and Flax sandwich cone speaker drivers (1 x 6.5” midrange and 2 x 6.5” woofers). All drivers are said to be Focal’s own latest technology, developed and manufactured in Saint-Etienne, France.
Focal says that Kanta No.2 is ideal for rooms up to 30m2 and even larger rooms up to 60m2.
Kanta, translates to radiant, or beautiful, and there is no disputing that with a whole host of finishes available, including – Cabinet (Black High Gloss, Walnut Veneer) and Front Panel (High Gloss – Gauloise Blue, Carrara White, Black Lacquer, Solar Yellow. Matt Finishes – Gauloise Blue, Warm Taupe, Dark Grey, Ivory).
Kanta has a nominal impedance of 8Ohm, 91dB Sensitivity and a frequency response of 35Hz – 40kHz (+/- 3dB) and a recommended amplifier power of 40 – 300 watts.
Standing at 1290x690x4200mm (HxWxD) and weighing in a 40kg each they’re a lot of loudspeaker but not visually imposing or overpowering. With the host of finishes, buyers can mix and match Kanta No.2 to best match their décor.
Focal Home Audio Distributor for Australia, Chris Murphy, told StereoNET:
We viewed the Kanta prototypes at the Focal Distributor Conference in January, and were impressed by the stylish design and range of fresh new colours.
We’re very excited about this new model which offers precise and accurate audio with a warm sound and optimal musicality.
Focal Kanta No.2 will be available in Australia from November 2017 for $14,250 RRP.
StereoNET is yet to hear them but on paper and price alone, we’re already impressed. Look out for an upcoming review on these pages.
