AUDIOQUEST INTRODUCES NEW HEADPHONES

AudioQuest have announced two new models to the award-winning NightHawk headphone range.

The two new additional models, NightHawk Carbon and NightOwl Carbon are said to both tick the boxes for outstanding comfort, stylish looks and naturally beautiful sound for immersive, enriching, fatigue-free listening.

The NightHawk Carbon features several acoustic, ergonomic and cosmetic refinements, while retaining the unrivaled comfort and low distorted sound that is already found in the original NightHawk. The NightOwl Carbon trades its siblings’ semi-open grille for a damped closed back design that enables isolation from external noise and even deeper sonic immersion.

Both models feature a 50mm dynamic driver with a biocellulose diaphragm, rubber surround and true voice-coil former that AudioQuest says defeats the resonant coloration and distortion found in other similar headphones.

NightOwl Carbon is a closed back design and hidden beneath the central circular portion of the earcups is a vent taht runs along the perimeter of each dome and exits through a hidden airflow-resistive port. Where the NightOwl differs to other sealed enclosure headphones, this design effectively “relieves any build-up of pressure, allowing the drivers to breathe freely, ensuring that any impulses return to an innocuous resting state with no ringing, oscillation or resonance.”

Featuring a genuine leather headband, the ear cups feature Porsche carbon grey metallic high-gloss paint, combined with all-natural liquid wood, which itself is made from 100% renewable raw materials, and according to AudioQuest has far superior acoustic properties than plastic.

Both new models include two sets of ear pads allowing choice betwen leather for better sound isolation and enhanced treble clarity, or ultra-suede ear pads which are said to breathe better for greater comfort and slightly less bass impact.

A 1.29m cable with a non-braided jacket is included featuring high-purity Tellurium Copper plugs. Both headphones feature a discrete microphone and smartphone controls for use on-the-go.

The AudioQuest NightHawk Carbon and NightOwl Carbon are available now for $995 RRP.

    applause awards

Each time StereoNET reviews a product, it is considered for an Applause Award. Winning one marks it out as a design of great quality and distinction – a special product in its class, on the grounds of either performance, value for money, or usually both.

Applause Awards are personally issued by StereoNET’s global Editor-in-Chief, David Price – who has over three decades of experience reviewing hi-fi products at the highest level – after consulting with our senior editorial team. They are not automatically given with all reviews, nor can manufacturers purchase them.

The StereoNET editorial team includes some of the world’s most experienced and respected hi-fi journalists with a vast wealth of knowledge. Some have edited popular English language hi-fi magazines, and others have been senior contributors to famous audio journals stretching back to the late 1970s. And we also employ professional IT and home theatre specialists who work at the cutting edge of today’s technology.

We believe that no other online hi-fi and home cinema resource offers such expert knowledge, so when StereoNET gives an Applause Award, it is a trustworthy hallmark of quality. Receiving such an award is the prerequisite to becoming eligible for our annual Product of the Year awards, awarded only to the finest designs in their respective categories. Buyers of hi-fi, home cinema, and headphones can be sure that a StereoNET Applause Award winner is worthy of your most serious attention.
